SOUTHERN COOKING: GREASE FIRE DAMAGES WATKINSVILLE HOME IN GEORGIA
January 30, 2015
Watkinsville, Georgia
A grease fire at a home on Lawanna Drive in Watkinsville
early Friday morning heavily damaged the kitchen, but no one was injured,
according to Oconee County Assistant Fire Chief Ken Parsons.
The fire, which originated in the pan, caught the cabinets
on fire and the heat blew out a kitchen window, Parsons said.
“There was a significant wind blowing and when it started
coming in, it was like pouring gasoline on it,” he said.
Firefighters arrived quickly and contained the fire to the
kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout the house, he said.
Authorities temporarily shut down a portion of Lawanna Drive
on Friday to battle the blaze.
Despite the “funny”
title, grease fires are one of the leading causes of fires.
