FIRE AT FORMER LORD PLANT IN ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA WAS CAUSED BY SPARKS FROM PIPE CUTTING TOOLS USED BY MAINTENANCE WORKERS

January 30, 2015-

ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA
Fire broke out at the former Lord Corporation building just after midnight, sending fire crews rushing to the scene.
According to fire officials at the scene, salvage crews were working in the building earlier in the day, cutting pipes in the building.
Sparks from the cutting got into some insulation, and smoldered until it eventually caught fire.
The flames were put out quickly by fire fighters, but crews were on scene for about 2 hours, due to difficulty getting to the flames.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
