EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — An extra-alarm fire broke out Thursday night at a Department of Public Works garage in Edison, New Jersey.

Fire officials say a municipal garage has collapsed after a multi-alarm fire in Edison. No one has been injured.

The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Thursday at the Edison Township DPW garage, at 745 New Durham Rd., the Edison Fire Department told CBS2.

The fire was later raised to four alarms, and the structure collapsed, fire officials said.
No one was inside the building, and no one was injured, fire officials said.

No nearby homes were evacuated, but the fire department was going from home to home to alert residents of the fire, officials said. There is an alley between the garage and the neighborhood so the homes are not believed to be in danger.

The Middlesex County Fire Coordinator was sent to the scene, and surrounding towns were assisting in fighting the fire.

It was not known what was burning in the building, but it contained fuel tanks, automobiles and tires, officials said.
