ANOTHER DRIVER FALLS ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL AND COLLIDES WITH A CARGO TRUCK IN WHITLEY COUNTY, KY
January 29, 2015
Northbound I-75 was reduced to one lane Thursday morning
when a pickup truck rear-ended a cargo truck and shattered several pieces of
the load of glass it was hauling.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Todd Shelley said the
wreck occurred about 7:20 a.m. near the 23-mile marker when the driver of the
GMC pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel and ran into the back of the cargo
truck.
The broken glass showered the right lane.
Shelley said emergency personnel kept the other lane open
while efforts were made to clean up the glass and move the vehicles.
Kentucky Transportation workers brought in a street sweeper
to remove the glass while both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Shelley said the driver of the pickup truck was taken by
private vehicle to Baptist Health Corbin. He is not facing any charges.
Both lanes were open to traffic by 10:05 a.m.
The names of the drivers were not immediately available.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Captain Millard Root, Oak Grove
firefighters and state highway workers assisted at the scene.
