7 People Hurt When Fire Sweeps Through Home, Garages In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn

Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY (CBSNewYork) — Six firefighters and one civilian were hurt in a 3-alarm fire that swept through a multi-family home and several garages in Brooklyn.
Firefighters were called to 61st Street in Bensonhurst around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Chopper 2 was over the scene as several firefighters entered the house through the roof and others doused the flames from outside the home.
Officials said the victims all suffered minor injuries.
Officials said the cause of the fire was determined to be the accidental ignition of fuel vapors.

NEW YORK (AP) — Eight people have suffered minor injuries in a fire that started in a Brooklyn garage where containers of flammable fuel were being stored.
Fire Department officials say the fire started just before 3 p.m. Friday in a garage on 61st Street in Bensonhurst.
Deputy Chief Michael Gala said there were 150 cases of fuel in the garage where the fire started.
Gala said 140 firefighters and EMTs responded to the fire.
Seven firefighters were treated for minor injuries such as sprains. A man who was working in the garage was hospitalized for minor burns.
The fire spread to two adjoining houses.
Gala said the fire marshal is investigating.
