A towing vessel spilled 100 gallons of diesel into the Missouri River near mile marker 360 due to a fuel tank rupture.

NEW ORLEANS— The Coast Guard is responding to a report of a 100-gallon diesel-fuel spill in the Missouri River near Kansas City, Missouri, that occurred Monday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River received a report around 9:26 p.m. that a towing vessel reportedly discharged 100 gallons of diesel into the Missouri River near mile marker 360 due to a fuel tank rupture.

The vessel has secured the discharge of fuel.

An oil spill removal organization has placed boom around the vessel and is scheduled to return today to continue clean-up operations.

The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the situation until the fuel is removed from the water.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
