ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (WLS) -- Two people were killed in a crash on Route 53 just south of Eucild Avenue in northwest suburban Rolling Meadows Tuesday morning.
Traffic on northbound Route 53 is being forced off at Kirchoff and Algonquin roads as Illinois State Police investigate the crash. Route 53 could be closed until around 8:45 a.m.
State police said a driver heading south in the northbound lanes of Route 53 struck two vehicles head-on around 4:10 a.m. A yellow Toyota Scion, a white Toyota Sienna taxi and a white Chevy Impala were badly damaged. A silver Cadillac CTS was also at the scene, but had no visible damage.
It is unclear which vehicles the victims were in, investigators said. No details have been released about the victims.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is assisting with traffic control. Traffic is building on Route 53. Drivers should avoid the area.
