Through an open records request, WKYT has learned new information in the death of Nicholasville police officer Burke Rhoads.
Thursday, The Jessamine Journal obtained the final crash analysis from Kentucky State Police, regarding the accident that killed Officer Burke Rhoads in March.
State Police investigators said heavy fog and dark road conditions played a huge impact in the crash.
Trooper Paul Blanton says that Rhoads was traveling through Garrard County, in route to training in Richmond when the accident happened.
According to Blanton, a Chevrolet Cruze turned off Rogers Road(HWY 1845) onto U.S. 27, colliding with the police cruiser. The cruiser then spun backwards into oncoming traffic when it was hit by a Cadillac SUV.
Troopers do not believe Rhoads was speeding at the time of the crash.
Family members of one of the drivers injured in the crash has since sued the Nicholasville Police department.
