MINFORD, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A car versus train crash sent one man to the hospital Friday morning in Scioto County.
it happened around 10 a.m. Friday. The Scioto County's Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Quinten Smith was on his way to his friend's house.
He turned onto the private crossing off of Ohio 335.
The train hit his passenger-side door, forcing his car off the tracks. He was flown to Cabell Huntington hospital.
"I heard the whistle. I didn't hear the crash, but 10-15 minutes later I came out and saw the train stopped," said neighbor Bill Logan.
Officials say they don't know if he tried to beat the train or just didn't see it, but neighbors say they've also had close calls.
"The ribbon rail they're using more is so quiet that you don't even see them coming, so you really have to stop," said Darlene Ruby.
Smith's friends say he is at Cabell Huntington Hospital with two partially collapsed lungs and a broken vertebrae.
CSX officials say train conductors do not have to sound their whistle at each private crossing, and that it is up to the driver to stop.
They say the train was blowing its whistle at the time of the accident.

MINFORD, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A driver was flown to the hospital after his car was hit by train Friday morning.
The accident happened at a private crossing (driveway) on Route 335 just north of the Scioto County Airport.
Investigators say the crossing serves two homes.
There is no word on the driver’s condition. He was airlifted to a hospital in Huntington.
