WICKENBURG, AZ (KPHO/KTVK)
Three people have died in a three-vehicle collision after a
truck crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 93 between Phoenix and Las Vegas
Friday afternoon.
A pickup truck heading south on U.S. 93 crossed over the
center line into northbound traffic, said Quentin G. Mehr of the Arizona
Department of Public Safety. A semi truck swerved to the right to try to avoid
a collision, but the pickup truck struck the trailer of the semi truck, then
struck another vehicle head-on that was behind the semi truck, according to
Mehr.
Two people in the vehicle that was hit head-on and the
pickup truck driver died. A passenger in the pickup truck was taken to a
hospital with injuries. The semi driver was not hurt.
Mehr said the investigation is ongoing at this point.
Both directions of U.S. 93 were closed about 15 miles
northwest of Wickenburg at milepost 181 as a result of the crash, an Arizona
Department of Transportation spokesman said.
All lanes have reopened, but there is about a 7-mile backup
in both directions.
