DERBY, KANSAS
A home was leveled after an explosion Monday night near
Derby. It happened around 10 p.m. at 7530 South 127th Street.
Dispatch said there were several calls which came in
reporting a possible explosion in the area. Crews on scene reported heavy
smoke and flames and that the house was leveled.
Around 11:30 p.m., Sedgwick County Fire Division Chief Kip
Hiebert spoke with the media. He said they found a victim in the debris. They
will wait until Tuesday to identify the body.
Several viewers have called in and commented that they could
feel the explosion up to six miles away, including one viewer who called from
Mulvane asking if there had been an earthquake.
The fire was controlled within an hour.
