WOMAN INJURED IN
CAR, TRAIN CRASH IN KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, INDIANA

A Leesburg woman was seriously injured when her vehicle
collided with a train Friday in Kosciusko County.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call
at 4:32 p.m. Friday of a train-car crash near the intersection of C.R. 600
North and Old Ind. 15.
Responders located a female, identified as Lorraine J.
Amerkanos, 58, trapped inside her vehicle. Amerkanos was extricated and
transported to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, in serious condition with
multiple injuries.
Kosciusko County police stated that a preliminary
investigation of the crash has determined that Amerkanos was eastbound on C.R.
600 North, approaching the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing. According to
witness statements, she failed to look for the northbound freight train, and
pulled directly into its path, police said.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was also
assisted at the scene by the Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department.

• A man was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Ind. 3
east of LaGrange Friday.
According to LaGrange County police, a 1991 Chevrolet
S10, driven by David Eash, was driving southbound on Ind. 3 when the truck hit
a patch of ice in the roadway and Eash lost control of his vehicle and struck a
tree.
Eash was transported to Parkview Noble hospital with an
injury to his arm, police said.
