A 52-year-old truck driver died after the semi-truck he was driving rolled over on U.S. Highway 50 west of Las Animas on Sunday morning.

Donald Chambers, from Pueblo west, was driving a Kenworth tractor truck pulling a diesel tanker, when his truck rolled as he went around a corner, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Rob Madden.

The semi rolled one-and-three-quarter times before coming to rest beside the road. Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at 5:05 a.m. as Chambers was heading east.

Some fuel spilled on the road, which was closed throughout the morning and early afternoon as crews offloaded fuel from the tanker and clean up the road, Madden said.

"The state patrol is investigating speed as a contributing factor," he said.

LAS ANIMAS -- Coloradans may run into some traffic following a tragic rollover accident Sunday.

A tractor-trailer driver hauling diesel was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Las Animas.

According to Colorado State Patrol, the driver, Donald Chambers, 52, was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 near milepost 379 when he rolled the tractor-trailer.

Officials say Chambers was going around a curve when the tractor-trailer began to roll.

Chambers was pronounced dead when emergency crews arrived.

The CSP hazmat team is working to clear the spilled diesel from the accident.

The road will remain closed until crews have the spill cleared.
