A 52-year-old truck driver died after the semi-truck he
was driving rolled over on U.S. Highway 50 west of Las Animas on Sunday
morning.
Donald Chambers, from Pueblo west, was driving a
Kenworth tractor truck pulling a diesel tanker, when his truck rolled as he
went around a corner, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Rob Madden.
The semi rolled one-and-three-quarter times before
coming to rest beside the road. Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened at 5:05 a.m. as Chambers was
heading east.
Some fuel spilled on the road, which was closed
throughout the morning and early afternoon as crews offloaded fuel from the
tanker and clean up the road, Madden said.
"The state patrol is investigating speed as a
contributing factor," he said.
