East 120th is closed from Mayfield Road to Euclid Avenue
The roadway will remain closed as crews repair a water main break that flooded the area on Friday afternoon.
Cleveland Water Department Spokesperson John Goersmeyer says a crew of about five people will be working with a backhoe on Saturday.
Goersmeyer tells Channel 3, they will try to fix the pipe on Saturday but will have to use next week to repair the road.
He adds, this is the worst water main break he has seen so far this winter, saying there was two feet of water in the street in some places.
Several nearby basements flooded. Some cars in the area were underwater.
Goersmeyer confirms the break was in a 24-inch trunk main, a bigger water main that feeds into smaller pipes and into homes. Those homes never lost water, but they had decreased pressure.
Case Western Reserve University also closed its campus on Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m., posting on its website that the water main break has affected most buildings on the campus. The School of Dental Medicine clinic was also closed.
