Pest control worker who fell to his death identified

ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- A pest-control worker who died in a job-site accident in a residential North County neighborhood was identified Saturday by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office as a 66-year-old Guatay man.
Jack Rafael Ruiz was found by a co-worker lying unconscious on the ground with a bleeding head wound outside a home in the 1400 block of Oak Hill Drive in Escondido on Thursday afternoon.
Medics tried in vain to revive Ruiz before pronouncing him dead at the scene.

The co-worker said the accident happened while he was away from the job site for about two hours before he returned at about 2 p.m.
That's when he found Ruiz unresponsive, lying on the back patio. The co-worker said it appeared that Ruiz had fallen about 10 feet to the ground.

The victim's partner found the man who is in his 60s lying unconscious on the ground outside a home in the 1400 block of Oak Hill Drive in Escondido shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to police.
Medics tried in vain to revive him before pronouncing him dead at the scene. The man's name was withheld pending family notification.
The co-worker, who did not witness the accident, said the victim appeared to have fallen about 10 feet off of a patio, Sgt. Fred Cheatham said.

ROXBOROUGH (WPVI) -- A woman has died after a crash in Philadelphia's Roxborough section.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Hagy's Mill Road near Belfrey Drive.
Police say the driver of a car struck a deer and slammed into a PECO utility pole.
The pole then fell onto the car, splitting it in half, police say.
The 22-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle.
She was rushed to Einstein Medical Center where she died from her injuries.
The 27-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

UPPER ROXBOROUGH (WTXF) - A woman was killed when the car she was in hit a deer in Upper Roxborough, overnight.
Philadelphia police say it happened shortly after 12:30am Sunday along Hagys Mill and Campanile roads.
The 27-year-old man driving hit the deer and lost control of the car.
Then, the car slammed into a PECO electric pole, causing it to fall and split the vehicle in half.
Investigators say the 22-year-old victim was ejected from the top of the car, since it split, and she landed on her head. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.
The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
NILES, Michigan (WABC) -- One child is dead after 13 people were evacuated from a pool area at a Michigan hotel due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Around 10 a.m. Saturday, at a Quality Inn and Suites in Niles, several victims began to feel nauseous, according to Niles City Dispatch.
The hotel was evacuated as high carbon monoxide levels were detected on all floors, dispatch said.
Niles City Fire Capt. Don Wise said 13 total patients were hospitalized, including children, staff members and officers. Six children were found by hotel staff unconscious in the pool area. No one was found in the pool.
The children affected range in age from 10 to 14. It is unclear how long they were unconscious.
Some victims were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and another group was taken to Lakeland Michigan Hospital. Memorial Hospital confirmed that the patients there are in critical condition.
At Lakeland, one child was dead on arrival. Some hotel employees and first responders were being treated and were expected to make a full recovery, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The highest carbon monoxide reading, officials said, was 800 parts per million in the pool area, which is an extremely dangerous level. Wise said a pool heater could have caused the problem, but that is still under investigation.
An off-duty firefighter on the scene helped provide medical help and pull the patients into a safer area.
He did not know the statuses of the children's parents.
The hotel had never had issues like this before, Niles said. It is unclear if there was a carbon monoxide detector in the pool area.
Driver Charged in Fiery School Bus Crash In Sandy Springs
The bus was one of two carrying students to Ridgeview Middle School when it was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle Thursday morning.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The driver of a passenger vehicle has been cited in a fiery school bus crash Thursday morning in Sandy Springs.
The bus was one of two carrying students to Ridgeview Middle School when it was rear-ended on Roswell Road at Glenridge Drive, said system spokeswoman Susan Hale.
Capt. Mike Lindstrom with the Sandy Springs Police Department said the agency received the call around 8:14 a.m. March 30 of the collision on the southbound side of Roswell Road just north of Glenridge Drive.
The two school buses were stopped at the traffic signal when the driver of a blue Kia Forte "just slammed into them," the captain said.
The vehicle skimmed the first bus, but ran into and got lodged underneath the second bus, he added.
The first bus had 34 students on it while the second bus, which caught fire, 24 students. Nineteen middle school students suffered minor injuries and were transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital for treatment, Lindstrom said.
Hale said students were evacuated from the buses, and another bus was dispatched to pick up the students to take them to school.
“All of the other students either went home with their parents who arrived on the scene or went to school," Lindstrom told Patch.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, who was cited for failure to maintain lane, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A driver faces charges after causing a fiery school bus crash that injured 19 students Thursday morning on Roswell Road, Sandy Springs police said.
Those students walked away with only bumps and bruises in the accident just after 8 a.m., but the crash investigation shut down Roswell Road for about three hours, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
The road reopened just before 11 a.m.

Two southbound Fulton County school buses were stopped in the same lane north of Glenridge Road. One of the buses involved was a Ridgeview Middle School bus, Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale said.
A car also heading south on Roswell Road slammed into the back corner of one of the buses and went under the other bus, Sandy Springs police Capt. Mike Lindstrom said.
“When the vehicle went underneath the second bus, it caught on fire, which caused the Fulton County school bus to also catch on fire,” Lindstrom said.
The car’s driver, who faces failure to maintain lane charges, sustained back and neck injuries.
The bus drivers weren’t injured.
The 19 students who were injured were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital.
Most of the other children were taken back to Ridgeview Middle on another bus, but parents picked up four of the students.
It’s unclear what caused the car’s driver to crash into the buses.
GALENA, OH (WCMH) — Emergency crews have been called to a construction site in Galena after a worker was killed in an accident.
According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Luis Pillcorema of Columbus died when he was hit by an approximately 2,500-pound beam. Pillcorema was working at a residence under construction in Berkshire Township.

BERKSHIRE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) —
A man was killed after an accident on a construction site near Galena.
EMS crews and Sheriff's Deputies responded to the site on Wrenbury Drive early Thursday afternoon after getting reports of an accident. Officials said 34-year-old Luis Pillcorema died after he was struck by an I beam weighing approximately 2500 pounds.
The site in Berkshire Township is part of a new development called Cheshire Woods.
Authorities have not yet released any information about the accident or the worker. OSHA has been called to the site, and authorities say they will have to investigate.
