Police say a vehicle exceeded 100 miles per hour prior to a deadly crash in Norton Shores.
Officers say a 1999 white Mitsubishi was traveling southbound on US-31 near Airline around 1 a.m. Thursday when the vehicle lost control and vaulted onto Seaway Drive where it came to a rest on the eastbound side of the road.
The driver, identified by police as a 26-year-old Fruitport Township resident, was ejected from the vehicle and died.
Police say it appears the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Witnesses told officers the vehicle was driving at least 100 miles per hour prior to the crash.
The name of the driver is being withheld until all family members have been notified.
Authorities closed both sides of I-96/Seaway Drive for a couple hours as a result of the crash.
