Fire truck overturns on icy road in Franklin Co., Missouri

FRANKLIN CO. Mo. -- Two St. Clair firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries Friday morning when their fire truck overturned after sliding off an icy road and into a ditch around 7:45 in Union, Missouri. The accident occurred at Old Cove Road near Moselle Road.
The 60,000 pound truck was lying on its roof, before emergency crews worked to pull it out of the ditch and turned it right side up.
Crews with the St. Clair Fire Department say the truck was en route to an auto accident when they reached a blind curve, only to find another vehicle had already slid off the road. In their effort to avoid hitting that car, they braked and skidded off the road, rolling once.
Both firefighters were able to get out of the truck on their own. They were taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
The City of St. Clair says the fire truck is insured. No word yet if it has been totaled.
