Boy, man dead after truck crash on Lakeshore
Drive in New Orleans. The truck hit a
tree at high speed killing them both.
A boy and a man were killed and a woman was injured
after a truck struck a tree Friday night (Jan. 2) in the 300 block of Lakeshore
Drive, New Orleans police said.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene, located
near Landry's Seafood restaurant, said NOPD spokesman Officer Frank
Robertson.
The woman was taken to an area hospital in an
unknown condition.
Police said the man was driving the red Dodge pickup
eastbound about 8 p.m. when it struck the curb and lost control, striking
a tree.
About 20 people stood in the grass across from the
lakefront and watched as police and firefighters worked to extract the bodies
from the twisted remains of the pickup, wrapped around a tree near a picnic
shelter.
Police, who originally said two boys died, did not
immediately release the identity of the victims. Blood and alcohol tests are
pending.
