SPILL FROM THE SEMI TRUCK ONTO THE ROAD AND RAVINE.
DEPOE BAY, Ore. - A driver passing traffic in no-passing
zones on Highway 101 lost control and crashed into an oncoming semi truck
Friday evening, Oregon State Police.
The crash between Otter Rock and Depoe Bay closed Highway
101 in both directions for 7 hours while emergency crews responded to attend to
the injured driver, clear the wreckage and clean up a fuel spill.
State police said Raymond David, 27, of Otis was
northbound on Highway 101 in a 1991 Mazda pickup at a high rate of speed.
Police said David was passing cars on corners and in no-passing zones.
Shortly after 6 p.m., he lost control of his truck and
crashed into the front of an oncoming semi truck hauling frozen food.
The driver of the semi was not physically injured. The
truck came to rest blocking the highway.
David was ejected from his pickup and seriously injured,
police said. He was first taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in
Corvallis before being transferred to Legacy Emmanuel in Portland. His current
condition is not known.
The crash caused 100 gallons of diesel fuel to spill
from the semi truck on the road and into the nearby ravine.
