DID YOU CLEAN
THAT CHIMNEY PRIOR TO HEATING SEASON? JAN. 14, 2015 — CHIMNEY FIRE DUE TO A
CLOGGED CHIMNEY IN CADYVILLE, NEW YORK
CADYVILLE — A home sustained minor smoke damage after a
plugged chimney caught fire Tuesday morning, a fire lieutenant said.
No one was injured.
The Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched
to the two-story home of Carl and Penny Bowers, 739 Route 374, Cadyville, at
8:44 a.m., Fire Lt. Butch Wing said.
Mrs. Bowers first knew something was wrong when she saw
smoke coming out from the wall behind the TV, Wing said.
"The chimney got plugged about 10 feet down and we
had to pretty much unplug their chimney," he said. "It was an
excessively dirty chimney."
The residents can't use their wood boiler until it is inspected
but the home has another heat source so the family can remain there, he said.
They have insurance, Wing said.
Firefighters from the Cadyville Volunteer Fire
Department responded to the residence as mutual aid.
The Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department was back in
service at about 9:47 a.m.
