February 1, 2015

A Grandview family was preparing to eat an afternoon meal Saturday when they heard an explosion before a fire destroyed a pumphouse and a vehicle.

Firefighthers with Yakima Fire District 5 were called to the home in the 300 block of Brewer Road just after 3 p.m., a release said. The pumphouse was already down by the time they arrived with a vehicle parked next to it on fire.

The blaze was brought under control and did not threaten the nearby home or any other structures.  A second vehicle parked near the fire sustained moderate damage.

Damage is estimated at $21,000 and the cause is not yet known. The property owners told fire officials there were no heaters or other equipment in the building besides the pump at the time of the fire.
