WORTH, Ill. — Two lanes have reopened after a multi-vehicle
accident blocked all lanes on southbound Interstate 294 near 95th Street
for nearly two hours Monday morning.
Illinois State Police say the initial call came in at 9:21
a.m. It appears the blockage started with two jackknife semis and
the chain-reaction accident involved dozens of vehicles.
Eight people were taken in fair condition to Christ Medical
Center in Oak Lawn, according to a hospital representative.
Illinois State Police said in a statement Monday afternoon
that only three lanes were open as snow plows salt the pavement. Police also
said motorists can exit Interstate 294 southbound to Interstate 55 to LaGrange
Road southbound to 95th Street eastbound and re-enter 294 southbound
at 95th Street.
