Thief Steals a Truck, Then Hits Trees and Crashes the Truck in a Shed With a 10-Month Baby Inside in Wisconsin
BELOIT, Wis. (WFRV) - A baby is safe following a high-speed chase Beloit through that ended in a crash in Sunday night.
The suspect who crashed the car, 22-year-old Jose Gomez-Perez, is in custody, waiting on charges.
Police say he stole the truck from a gas station, with the 10-month old girl already inside.
He ran the the truck off the road and hit two pine trees before crashing into a shed. The shed's owner rushed to the scene, and found the little girl.
The baby and the driver were taken to the hospital and released the same night.

A baby is safe after a man stole a truck with the little one still strapped inside, according to police in Beloit.
The incident began Friday evening, according to our Madison sister station WKOW.
Police say a 22-year-old man stole a pickup truck from a gas station in Beloit with a 10-month-old child strapped inside the vehicle. An 8-year-old child was able to escape the truck before the suspect, Jose Gomez-Perez, drove away.
Minutes later, the car crashed into a machine shed at a residence outside Beloit.
Police say the baby was not hurt.
A man who was at the crash scene described the shock of finding the baby in the vehicle.
“I opened the front door and crawled in, and the radio was still going, and looked for someone else,” said Gary Sminchak. “I didn’t see anyone else. It was getting dark. And as I was leaving I heard the baby in the background doing a little cooing, and I said, ‘There’s a baby in here.'”
Gomez was taken into custody. Police say he’s a suspect in two separate car thefts.
The crash caused $50,000 in damage to the shed.
