ELDERLY WOMAN CRITICALLY INJURED, HER DOG KILLED IN
ALBUQUERQUE HIT BY A TRUCK WHILE SHE WAS IN THE CROSSWALK.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An elderly Albuquerque woman
walking her dog was critically injured when a truck hit her Tuesday morning.
Her dog was killed. Police say she was in a crosswalk and that has people
living nearby concerned.
Roads blocked with crime tape, covering another pedestrian
crash have become an all too common of a site in Albuquerque.
“It’s a terrible shame,” Reed said.
Albuquerque police say an elderly woman and her dog were hit by
a truck as it turned onto Anaheim from Wyoming around 9:00 Tuesday morning.
“It was blocked off at Corona and so I had turned to come down
this way,” said Reed.
Police say the victim and her pet were in the crosswalk
crossing a side street when it happened. Police don’t know where the woman was
walking to or from but the North Domingo Baca dog park is just a block away
from the crash scene.
“I thought well that’s got to be somebody walking the dog to
come over to the park either inside or around that area,” Reed told KRQE News
13.
Police say the woman is in critical condition. Her dog was
taken to the North View Animal Hospital just feet away from where she was hit
but police say veterinarians weren’t able to save the dog’s life.
Dog owners say drivers need to watch out on Wyoming, but they
also say walkers need to watch out, too.
Police say the driver did stay on scene and answered questions
about what happened.
They’re still figuring out if the driver will be charged.
Police say they don’t think drugs and alcohol are a factor.
