THE HOUSE STRUCTURE AND TWO CARS PARKED IN FRONT WERE
DESTROYED IN A FIRE IN BATH TOWNSHIP, OHIO
January 24, 2015
BATH TWP., OHIO- No one was injured in a house fire Friday
morning in the 16000 block of Austin Way in Bath Township, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around 6:40 a.m. in the quadroplex, or
two attached duplexes, said Kevin Douglas, a Bath Township firefighter and EMT.
There were an unknown number of residents home but everyone
escaped safely, Douglas said. He said half of the structure and two cars parked
in front were destroyed.
Cause of the fire and where it began were unclear, he added.
"We are trying to work out that now," Douglas said
at the scene.
Lucia Weise, who lives across the street, awoke to what she
said sounded like a "thud."
"It was the car, the tires blowing, sending sparks into
the air," Weise said, with her son, Alex, 2, at her side. "We were
wondering why we were hearing sounds."
Weise said she and her neighbors aren't used to such
commotion in the otherwise tranquil, somewhat secluded subdivision. "It's
really good for kids because you can just walk outside and everyone's
friendly," she said.
The Meridian, Bath and DeWitt townships fire departments,
East Lansing and Laingsburg fire departments and Bath Township police responded
to the scene. The American Red Cross provided assistance.
