CYCLIST KILLED IN HIT-AND-RUN AT PACIFIC HIGHWAY
CROSSING. DEATHS OF PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS ARE ON THE RISE
January 23, 2015
A 53-year-old man was
killed in a hit-and-run accident while riding his bicycle near the Pacific
Highway truck crossing in California on January 22.
The cyclist was
attempting to cross the highway diagonally at the H Street intersection when he
was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck continued heading north
after the accident. Witnesses later reported seeing a pickup truck matching the
description driving east on D Street.
Three hours after the
accident, 26-year-old Blaine resident Andrey Kirichkov turned himself in to
state troopers.
As we reported few days
ago, the death toll of pedestrians and cyclists continue to rise. They now constitute about 17 percent of the
total traffic fatalities. Basically, we
made the trucks and cars very safe during crashes to protect the drivers. The drivers now feel indestructible and are plowing
at will the pedestrians and cyclists. We
need measures to protect the pedestrians and cyclists. Be careful out there.
