Fire sprinkler head bursts at BHS construction
site AND SETS OFF THE FIRE ALARM
Bartlesville Fire Department units from Fire Station One
and Fire Station Two responded to a false fire alarm at Bartlesville High
School Thursday night, officials say.
According to BFD Chief John Banks, fire crews were
called to the BHS campus at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday. The
Examiner-Enterprise was also on scene at the time of the call.
“When we arrived on scene, there was no visible smoke or
fire at the high school,” Banks told the Examiner-Enterprise on Friday. “We
searched the buildings and the construction area and found that a fire
sprinkler head in the construction area had frozen and burst, causing water to
leak from the pipe.”
Banks said the fire department was able to find the
shut-off valve for the pipe and stop the water from flowing. No water damage to
the main building, Fine Arts Center or Field House was reported.
The BHS campus is currently undergoing a massive
construction project to become a four-year high school as a result of a $36.7
million bond issue passed by voters in 2013. The facility should be ready for
the 2015-2016 school year, school officials say.
