A tractor towing several other truck cabs
instead of a trailer lost control on U.S. 287 and crashed into a storm water
ditch, causing oil and gasoline leak. Hazmat units dam oil from reaching Haslet creek
Haslet Fire Department hazardous materials units were
able to stop an oil leak from reaching a creek after a truck crash Saturday
morning, Fire Chief Kirt Mays said.
A tractor towing several other truck cabs instead of a
trailer lost control on U.S. 287 and crashed into the ditch near Bates Aston
Road at about 9:50 a.m., Mays said. The driver was hospitalized, but his
injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Several fluid tanks ruptured during the crash, causing a
lot of leaking into the ditch, Mays said. Because of the recent heavy rain, the
oil and gas began to carry toward a stream. The hazmat team was able to stop it
before it reached the stream.
“It got close, but we held it up,” Mays said.
The Texas Department of Transportation was handling the
cleanup, he said. No other vehicles or people were involved in the wreck. U.S.
287 is clear, but the access road was shut down near the crash scene.
