Fire burns historical Houston, TEXAS church

The blaze burned through two floors of bible study
classrooms
HOUSTON – A 3-alarm fire burned through a historical
Houston church built in 1899.
The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a fire at
St. John Baptist Church at 1:45 Sunday morning off the 2700 block of Dowling
Street. The fire had burned through the two floors of bible study classrooms
before reaching the roof.
No one was inside the church at the time and no injuries
were reported, according to HFD. HFD Arson is investigating the cause of the
fire.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Barbara Jordan, Dr. Miles
Jones and other prominent figures have spoken at the church, according to the
church's website.
