KENWOOD, CALIFORNIA
A man killed when his speeding Porsche crashed on
Highway 12 Friday was identified Saturday morning as John Daman Hatley, 55,
from the El Verano area.
On Friday, the man was thought to be a San Francisco
resident. But the Sonoma County coroner’s office said Saturday that he lived in
the Sonoma Valley.
Witnesses said Hatley’s eastbound 2006 Porsche Boxster
convertible appeared to lose control before crashing into oncoming traffic just
west of Dunbar Road in Kenwood about 1:40 p.m.
CHP officials said the sports car crossing over the
double-yellow lines and was seen speeding into oncoming lanes as it made
several dangerous passes in the moments before it sped out of control on the
wet roadway.
Witnesses said the car may have been going as fast as 80
mph in the 55 mph zone.
The driver’s side of the Porsche slammed into the front
of an oncoming GMC 3500 flatbed truck belonging to a Healdsburg concrete
company. Two occupants of the truck were uninjured.
An autopsy is still pending.
