MILFORD, DE

A 17-year-old is in critical condition after his speeding car crashed into trees Monday near Milford, state police said.

The crash was reported at 11:34 a.m. on Cedar Beach Road (Del. 36) east of Milford.

Teen driver Tremayne Michael Lofland of Milford, was westbound at a high rate of speed when his 2002 Mazda 626 he failed to negotiate a curve to the right, Sgt. Richard D. Bratz said.

He drove off the road’s south side, where the driver’s side of the car sideswiped a tree before the right front of the bumper hit another tree, leaving the vehicle wedged between two trees, Bratz said.

Lofland was transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, he said.

He was listed in critical condition, Bratz said. Details of his injuries were not disclosed.

Traffic charges against him are pending, he said.

Cedar Beach Road was closed in both directions for about two hours as the crash was investigated and wreckage cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
