HOUSTON, TEXAS (AP) -
A stretch of the upper Houston Ship Channel has reopened after about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled and forced a three-hour closure.
The Coast Guard says the area reopened around 10:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday.
Nobody was hurt in the incident involving fuel that entered Greens Bayou from a cement facility. The Coast Guard blamed a diesel storage tank that overflowed.
Greens Bayou, is a heavily industrialized urban estuary and tributary to the Houston Ship Channel in Texas
Environmental experts were summoned for cleanup. The spill was contained using a boom.
The 50-mile ship channel connects the Gulf of Mexico to the Port of Houston. The area is home to one of the world's largest petrochemical complexes.
