LA PINE, Ore. - A head-on crash killed a Bend man and a 10-year-old girl from Idaho on Sunday south of La Pine on Highway 97, Oregon State Police said.
The preliminary investigation indicates Alan James Eutsler, 29, of Bend was northbound in a 1991 Lexus when he crossed into oncoming traffic.
The Lexus hit head-on with a Ford sedan carrying a family of 4 from Idaho, state police said.
Eutsler died at the scene.
The crash also killed a 10-year-old girl from Rathdrum, Idaho, who was in the Ford.
The girl's parents, Donald and Barbara Adams, were taken by helicopter to Bend with life-threatening injuries, police said. Their 8-year-old son was taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The crash investigation closed Hwy 97 for 4 hours.
Police said Eutsler may have been speeding and passing unlawfully at the time of the crash. The case remains under investigation.
