CHARLTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) --

A large fire destroyed a part of a historic winery on Sunday night.

Flames broke out around 10:45 p.m. at the Charlton Orchards Farm and Winery, which is just south of Route 20 and the Mass Pike.

The Fire Marshal says the fire destroyed a majority of the corporate, retail and storage area of the winery.

Four-thousand gallons of wine were ruined and all of the wine-making equipment.

The fate of about 100 chickens on the property was not immediately known.

Firefighters from six towns responded to the scene. There were no injuries reported.

State fire marshal Stephen Coan says the investigation into the cause of the fire is still in the preliminary stages.

The farm dates back to 1733, according to its website.
