Fatal Plane Crash in Ashley County
August 1st, 2015 by iPhoneNTSB is investigating an accident involving a Air Tractor AT-601 that crashed in Wilmot, AR today.
The pilot of a small plane lost his life, Saturday morning, at the scene of his single engine plane’s crash, in an Ashley County field.
According to Ashley County Sheriff David Johnson, the 39-year-old pilot, whose name has not been released, is not from the Southeast Arkansas area.
Reports indicate that his plane took off from a nearby agricultural airport before disappearing, shortly before 7 AM, Saturday morning.
Other pilots begin to search, assisted by the ping of his cell phone, which led them to the crash site.
Ashley and Chicot County Sheriff’s departments and other agencies responded to the crash scene.
The Federal Aviation Agency and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified, and are expected to be on the scene, Sunday.
The crash site is located near the county-line area, and is being maintained by Ashley County Sheriffs deputies.
The pilot was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. No one else was injured during the crash.

The aircraft was destroyed by the impact with cornfield terrain during an agricultural aerial application flight in eastern Ashley County, Arkansas. The sole pilot onboard the agplane received fatal injuries.
