CARMEL, Ind. —
Authorities say a car hit and badly injured a highway worker in a construction zone on U.S. 31 just north of Indianapolis.
The Carmel Fire Department says the worker and the car's driver were both taken to the hospital in critical condition after the crash late Thursday night. The construction worker suffered serious leg injuries.
Officials say the car hit the worker and then flipped several times in the construction zone a couple miles north of Interstate 465. The section of U.S. 31 is in the midst of a multi-year project upgrading it to interstate highway standards between I-465 and Indiana 38 north of Westfield.
The identities of the injured worker and driver weren't immediately released. -
