LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA

A Lancaster man in his 50s died Monday night after his pickup truck drifted off the roadway and slammed into a light pole and a parked vehicle, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 7:45 p.m. Monday, July 13, on 40th Street West near Avenue K-14 in Lancaster, according to Lt. David Grall of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

“[The driver] was traveling north on 40th Street West and for an unknown reason drifted off the roadway and struck a light pole…” Grall said. “It sheared the pole off, which crushed the passenger compartment of the vehicle.”

Investigators at the scene said the pickup truck also struck a parked vehicle.

The man’s name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, corner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Tuesday morning.

The incident is still under investigation and it is unknown at this point whether speed or alcohol may have played a factor in the collision, sheriff’s officials said.

“We’re asking [for] the public’s help; we don’t have any witnesses to this and there was only one person involved in this,” said Sgt. David Jennings.
