The 2 fatal Lehigh Acres, Florida crash victims are identified

LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA

The two people who did not survive a crash on Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres Friday are identified as Aida Perez Garcia, 60, of Cape Coral and Onesimo Medaldo Rodriguez, 66, of Cape Coral.

The Florida Highway Patrol says two other people were injured in the crash. Pedro Cabrera Rodriguez, 48, of Cape Coral was critically injured and taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. Peter Anthony Cabrera, 19, also of Cape Coral received serious injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The crash happened at the intersection of Milwuakee Boulevard just after 3 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Ford F-350 driven by 39-year-old Ryan Todd Powers was traveling east on Homestead Road approaching Homestead Road South.

A second vehicle driven by Pedro Cabrera Rodriguez, 48, of Cape Coral was traveling north on Homestead Road South approaching Milwakee Boulevard.

Authorities say Powers violated the right-of-way of Rodriguez's vehicle and both vehicles entered the intersection. The front of Powers' vehicle struck the left side of the other vehicle.

Both of the back seat passengers - Garcia and Onesimo Rodriguez - who were riding in Carbrera's vehicle died, FHP says.

Troopers believe heavy rain at the time of the crash could have played a role.

Powers was not injured and is charged with violation of the right-of-way.
