U.S. 33 has been reopened after hazmat crews worked for hours cleaning up a spill resulting from a semi-tractor trailer crash.
Otis Rogers, 43, of Dearborn Heights Mich., was driving the semi west on US 33 when he went off the right side of the highway just before the intersections of Sugar Grove Road and Sharp Road.
The truck, carrying a load of plastic for recycling, struck road signs and a guard rail before rolling over onto its side on the bridge going over the Hocking River.
The truck's fuel tank was ruptured in the crash and some diesel fuel, an estimated 177 gallons, spilled onto the bank of the river and into the Hocking River.
Fairfield County Sheriff's deputies, Berne Township firefighters and EMS, the Fairifeld County Hazmat team and the Ohio EPA responded to the crash that occurred at 1:37 a.m. Friday.
Rogers was not injured in the crash. The highway was reopened around 930 a.m.
Rogers was cited for failure to control, according to Fairfield County Sheriff''s Office reports.
