THE FUEL TANK CAP CAME OFF A LARGE COMMERCIAL TRUCK CAUSING A LEAK ON HIGHWAY 50 IN JEFFERSON CITY, MO

JEFFERSON CITY, MO.

A section of Highway 50 in Jefferson City is open again following cleanup of a fuel spill Tuesday night.

The spill closed two lanes of westbound Highway 50 at Missouri Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Crews had it back open shortly after 11 p.m.

The spill was about 100 feet long and 30 feet wide. MoDOT crews were dispatched to help clean up.

Some fuel did go down a drain into nearby Wears Creek, but officials tell ABC 17 it was a very small amount and isn't a concern.

Investigators say a gas tank gap was found at the scene leading them to believe the cap came off a large commercial truck causing the leak. At this point they don't know what truck may be involved.
