FIERY BIG RIG CRASH SNARLS I-35 IN ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, WHEN THE TRUCK ROLLED ONTO ITS SIDE AND BURST IN FLAMES

MARCH 2, 2015

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS (KXAN)

Two southbound lanes of Interstate 35 have reopened following a fiery crash Monday morning. The lanes had been closed for about seven hours. One lane is still closed while Texas Department of Transportation crews make repairs.

Northside commuters faced a case of the Mondays when an 18-wheeler rolled onto its side and burst into flames on  Interstate 35 at FM 1431 (University Blvd.)  just before 6:20 Monday morning.

Round Rock police are diverting southbound traffic off the interstate at the Westinghouse Exit but say they hope to reopen the interstate as soon as a structural evaluation of the FM 1431 bridge is complete.

There were no serious injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Drivers headed south from Exit 256 (University Blvd and FM 1431) should consider taking SH-130 to avoid the backup. Drivers south of the area can take surface streets south and picking up the Interstate once clear of the accident.

Hazmat did not need to be called, and no one was hurt.

Police told KVUE no citations have been issued because the investigation into how the truck went off the road continues. It's also too soon to tell if drugs or alcohol, or wet weather, played a role in the crash.
