RISKS OF TANKER TRUCKS: A TRUCKER TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON I-76, WAS SPEEDING,
LOST CONTROL OF HIS RIG AS HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET ONTO THE TOLL ROAD AND
CRASHES HIS TRUCK, SPILLING MILK
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) — The entrance ramp
to the Ohio Turnpike on I-76 remained closed late Friday after a crash.
A trucker traveling eastbound lost control of his rig as
he was attempting to get onto the toll road. The rig went off the road, into
the woods and then overturned. The cab landed on its roof and the jaws had to
be used to rescue the 81-year-old driver from Pennsylvania.
He was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center and it was
reported that he was alert.
The rig was hauling unpasturized milk and some of it
spilled out.
“They don’t know how much milk was lost but it is
unpasturized milk. So it started to run off into a nearby creek underneath the
vehicle. It started to run towards Meander Reservoir,” said Sgt. David
Zatuarnicky of the Ohio State Highway Partol.
HazMat crews are currently on the scene on Lipkey Road
trying to contain the spill. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it could
take several hours before everything is cleared up.
