WHEN A JEEP LIBERTY SPUN OUT AND JUMPED A MEDIAN, DUE TO ICY CONDITION, CAUSING
THE IT TO HIT HEAD-ON A NISSAN IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (WISH) – Three people remain
hospitalized following a two vehicle crash on Sunday evening.
According to Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita
Reith, a 34-year-old female passenger and a 10-year-old were in critical condition.
A seven-year-old child was in stable condition.
The crash happened on Keystone Avenue and 75th Street
just before 8 p.m.
IFD said a 2004 Jeep Liberty was heading northbound
on Keystone Avenue when they spun out and jumped a median, due to icy condition,
causing the Jeep to hit a Nissan that was traveling southbound on Keystone.
All five people inside the Jeep were hospitalized.
Three people were ejected, including the adult female, the 10-year-old and the
seven-year-old. A 13-year-old passenger of the Jeep ran down the embankment to
retrieve the seven-year-old to wait for medics. The 13-year-old and the
36-year-old male driver inside the Jeep were treated and released from the
hospital.
The 30-year-old male driver of the Nissan was
transported to the hospital in good condition. The 28-year-old female passenger
was also transported in good condition to the hospital.
A second crash happened at the same location, involving
two cars and a tow truck as they slowed to avoid the first crash. No one was
injured in that crash. It was not clear if the tow truck was responding the
first crash.
IFD said slick roads are believed to be the cause of the
initial crash. It was not clear if the occupants of the Jeep were properly
restrained in the vehicle.
IMPD will investigate the crash.
