Keurig Recalls
Coffee Machines on Burn Risk
Make
sure that the equipment bringing caffeinated liquid to the masses in your
office doesn’t present a safety hazard.

Coffee
can be the lifeblood for many workers and coffee machines are certainly a
staple in many offices.
Just
make sure that the equipment brewing the caffeinated liquid in your office
doesn’t present a safety hazard.
Keurig
Green Mountain Inc. is recalling about 7.2 million single-serve hot coffee
brewing machines because there is a burn risk for users if water overheats and
sprays out of the machines.
The
recall involves the Keurig MINI Plus Brewing Systems made between December 2009
and July 2014 that have a model number of K10 and serial numbers starting with
31.
Keurig
has received 90 reports of burn-related injuries in the U.S., the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission said, and 17 reports of minor burns in Canada, Health Canada said.
The
machines were sold in the U.S. and Canada for about $100 at Kmart, Kohl’s,
Target, Walmart and other retailers. There are about 6.6 million affected
machines in the U.S. and 564,000 in Canada.
Keurig said the glitch is
more likely to more likely to occur if more than two cups are brewed in quick
succession.
The
company is offering customers a free repair kit, and advises users to “avoid
brewing more than two cups in rapid succession and maintain an arm’s length
distance from the brewer during the brewing process” until machines are
repaired.
