CHANNAHON TOWNSHIP – The trucker whose semitrailer
rolled over on Interstate 55 on Wednesday told police he believes cargo shifted
before the accident.
The accident delayed traffic for five hours, with
northbound lanes closed completely for most of that time, until the semitrailer
was turned upright and hauled away.
The semitrailer rolled over at 4:40 p.m. south of Bluff
Road. State police said lanes were reopened at 9:40 p.m.
According to a state police account, the driver said he
believed his load had shifted when the truck began to sway. He told police that
he attempted to correct the direction of the truck when it rolled into a ditch.
The driver was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital
in Downers Grove. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
