Driver trapped in 18-wheeler after Jones
County, MS accident

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A two vehicle accident
happened on Highway 29 South of Ellisville Wednesday morning. An 18 wheeler
hauling logs struck another vehicle near a bridge and went down an
embankment.
The driver of the 18 wheeler is still trapped inside his
vehicle. First responders are on the scene trying to extract him from the
vehicle.
The driver is awake and alert and talking to the first
responders.
The incident occurred around 9:18 AM.
The life flight helicopter is on the scene ready to take
the driver to the hospital.

Truck driver dies in crash in Jones County, MS

A man was killed in Jones County
Wednesday morning, when his 18-wheeler log truck, loaded with logs, collided
with a passenger vehicle on Mississippi 29 South.
According to Jones County Coroner
Nancy Burnett, Ricky Dwight Stewart, 42, of Decatur died at the scene from
injuries he received during the crash.
At 9:17 a.m., emergency medical
responders and rescue units from Johnson, Glade, and Ovett volunteer fire
departments, along with units from the City of Ellisville Fire Department,
responded to the intersection of Spur Line Road and Mississippi 29 South.
According to officials, the accident
occurred when a man, driving a Toyota Avalon, pulled out onto Mississippi 29
South from Spur Line Road into the path of the 18-wheeler, which was traveling
south on Mississippi 29 South. Stewart swerved to try to keep from colliding
with vehicle, but clipped the front passenger side of the Avalon. When the two
collided, the Avalon was knocked down the embankment on the west side of the
highway, and the 18-wheeler careened down the embankment, plowing into a
ravine. Stewart was trapped inside his mangled cab.
The driver of the Avalon, was
transported to South Central Regional Medical Center with what was believed to
be minor and non-life threatening injuries.
