LIBERTY COUNTY (KTRK) --
Two people are dead after a plane crash in Liberty County, authorities confirmed to Eyewitness News.
According to authorities, the single-engine Bellanca plane crashed into the Trinity River near Highway 105 bridge around 6:50pm Saturday.
The two men inside the plane have know been identified as pilot, Patrick Joseph Falterman, 26, of Cleveland, Texas, and his friend, Zach Esters, 25, visiting from Louisiana.
Witnesses say the plane was seen flying low over the river and appeared to be attempting "stunts" one of which appeared to be a backward "loop" when the engine stalled at the peak of the loop maneuver causing the aircraft to roll over and strike the water in a vertical, nose down crash.
"He was doing barrels and he climbed up to a certain height, and he went straight down," witness Joanne Gaines said. "He was doing a barrel roll and then I heard the engine stop and next thing I know he crashed into the river."
The FAA is investigating the crash.
