JOHN SPINK
Story Highlights
The incident occurred on the east side of the new stadium construction site.
The worker suffered a severe head injury, officials said.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Mangum and Mitchell streets, under a concrete structure on the east side of the new stadium site.
Two long pieces of scaffolding could be seen lying on the ground, and witnesses told Channel 2 Action News that several pieces of the scaffolding had fallen on the injured worker. That worker’s identity was not immediately released.
Officials with the Atlanta Falcons did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Officials broke ground last May on the Falcons’ new stadium, which is going up on a site just south of the current Georgia Dome. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the 2017 football season.
