ANOTHER ONE PAYS THE PIPER: PILOT KILLED IN PIPER PA-28 PLANE CRASH IN TREILLES, FRANCE

The pilot of a small plane died in the crash of his plane Wednesday in the Aude. According to our colleagues of the AFP, the man would be the owner of a mechanical workshop in Perpignan.

The plane was found burned after crashing late morning in a scrubland area near the village of Treilles, between Narbonne and Perpignan. The aircraft was a private single-engine Piper PA-28, a small plane with four seats 6 m long and 4 m wide, which was flying from the region of Montpellier and Perpignan, according to the prefecture and the police.

The pilot was alone on board, declared emergency and the prefecture of the Aude, questioned by AFP. The body was charred, said the gendarmerie which sent investigators on site. The driver was a contractor, who owns a machine shop in Perpignan, said a professional relationship of the victim who has requested anonymity.

The accident aircraft, airplane rental, was new added the same source.  The crash caused a very small fire start which was quickly extinguished with the intervention of some 35 firefighters.  According to the operational center of the gendarmerie Aude, the circumstances of the accident were not immediately determined. 

"The plane was flying low" and could have hit the top of a tree or more, while a strong wind was blowing in the region, is it said only with gendarmes.
