An Indianapolis woman has died and four other people are injured after a single-vehicle crash north of Loogootee on Friday afternoon.
Police say Barry P. Matesick, 69, of Indianapolis, was northbound on US 231 around 3:20 p.m. near Abel Lane when the SUV he was driving went off the east side of the road.
He overcorrected, driving off the west side of the road and crashing head-on into a tree. The SUV was towing a trailer.
Lorretta Matesick, 65, of Indianapolis, suffered massive chest trauma from the impact and died as a result of her injuries. Three juveniles in the back seat, ages 17, 15 and 13, respectively, were taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for minor injuries.
Barry Matesick was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville with unknown injuries.
US 231 was closed for just over two hours while the crash was investigated.
